Panel SA: Controversy over paid baggage on a plane may have Bolsonaro’s political calculation

by

After the Chamber approved the provisional measure that prohibits the sale of a category of airline tickets without checked baggage, the market still harbors hope that Bolsonaro will veto it, if he makes a political calculation.

The reasoning defended by executives in the sector is the following: soaring fuel has already boosted ticket prices, making air travel inaccessible to part of the population.

They claim that, before taking any decision, Bolsonaro will remember that the expansion of access to air travel conquered by Brazilians came at the beginning of the century, coincidentally, during the Lula administrations.

In this case, according to them, it would be more strategic to let airlines sell a category of ticket in which the traveler takes only hand luggage if he wants to pay a cheaper fare, but at least part of the passengers could still go by plane.
