We need to be close to society, but that wants attention and realism, Mr. Staikouras stressed and added that the government is trying to improve the income of the citizen with permanent measures, keeping in mind the present and the future of the economy.
The Minister of Finance also stated that he will not refer to any future measures before the necessary budget space is secured and before there is a consultation with the Prime Minister.
He appeared, however, optimistic that the fiscal space will be found, because this is what the budget execution shows. Regarding the way it will be returned to society, he stressed that it will be done in a fair way and is a collective decision.
Mr. Staikouras explained that 110 million euros were given as a subsidy for fuel, but at the same time the citizens received 370 million euros through the new reduced ENFIA. He characteristically stressed: “instead of giving bonuses, you get less taxes”.
The choice of the government, according to the minister, is to permanently stimulate the disposable income of the citizen by reducing taxes, increasing the minimum wage.
