The positive diagnoses of Covid tests in pharmacies exploded in early June, according to the first signs of monitoring carried out by Abrafarma (pharmaceutical retail association).
The daily average of cases is approaching the level of 12,000, an alarming jump compared to the approximately 4,400 positive cases in May and just over 1,000 in the daily average of April.
In the period between May 30 and June 5, the total number of cases exceeded 58 thousand, a result 14% above the previous seven days, which had already been on an accelerated escalation. The percentage of positive diagnoses represented almost 28% of the testing volume. It is the highest rate of cases in 16 weeks.
According to Sergio Mena Barreto, president of Abrafarma, in just one week this month, pharmacies had almost 40% of the total cases registered throughout the month of May.
Abrafarma’s monitoring, which has been carried out since the beginning of the pandemic, usually anticipates trends in the scenario of the disease numbers. The data are sent by pharmacies to the Ministry of Health.
