Banks close in Corpus Christi, but open on Friday

Bank agencies will be closed this Thursday (16), Corpus Christi day, but return to normal service this Friday (17).

According to Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), branches will be closed on Thursday, including in municipalities where the date has been brought forward, as is the case of the city of São Paulo. Last year, the capital of São Paulo anticipated five holidays, as a strategy to stop the escalation of Covid-19.

Corpus Christi is not a national holiday, but an optional point in most parts of the country. There are cities that consider the date a municipal holiday.

According to Febraban, the decision on banking services complies with a resolution by the CMN (National Monetary Council), which does not consider Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays as working days for banking operations, as well as Mondays and Tuesday of Carnival and the day dedicated to Corpus Christi. On June 17, customer service at branches will resume normally.

Also according to the federation, the self-service areas (ATMs) will be available every day for customers, as well as digital and remote channels (internet and mobile banking).

Services by cell phone, computer and telephone (call centers) are available and offer practically all financial transactions in the banking system, he informs.

ACCOUNTS POSTPONED DUE TO BANK OPERATION

Consumption bills (water, energy, telephone) and bills due on June 16 can be paid, without an increase, on the following day, that is, on Friday (17).

“Usually, taxes already come with dates adjusted to the calendar of national, state and municipal holidays, but if this has not occurred in the collection document, the suggestion is to advance payment or, in the case of titles that have a barcode, schedule payment at ATMs, internet banking and over the telephone service of banks”, says the assistant director of services at Febraban, Walter Tadeu de Faria.

The payment of Auxílio Brasil will not be affected, as the calendar is programmed for working days only. The June payment calendar will start on Friday, the day after Corpus Christi and continue until the 30th, according to the final digit of the beneficiary’s NIS (Social Identification Number). This month, the Gas Aid will also be paid to families that are entitled to the bimonthly benefit.
