K. Hatzidakis: We are reducing unemployment with modern and innovative policies

by

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs was in Heraklion, Crete and visited the facilities of the company “Plastics of Crete”.

With modern and innovative policies we reduce unemployment, bring the unemployed closer to businesses, while at the same time we encourage businesses to adopt good practices, said the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Kostis Hatzidakis who visited Heraklion, Crete today.

During his stay he attended the 6th “Career Day” organized by the Public Employment Company (DYPA) in the city, in which 43 companies from Crete offered more than 1,300 jobs.

As Mr. Hatzidakis pointed out, with the Career Days we do something very useful and self-evident that is done in other European countries for years but was not done before in Greece: We bring the unemployed and employees close to companies, we “marry” the offer on demand. This is exactly the job of the Public Employment Service.

Starting from Thessaloniki last September, we now organize Career Days on a regular basis in major cities of Greece, through which thousands of jobs have been offered – and covered.

This is an excellent initiative that helps reduce unemployment and has been embraced by the workforce and of course we will continue to do so. “Because we want such modern policies to be applied for employment, social policy in practice that brings results.”

The Commander of DYPA Spyros Protopsaltis For his part, he noted that the Career Days are a manifestation of the mediating role that a public employment service should play.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs also visited the facilities of the company “Plastics of Crete”.

As Mr. Hatzidakis stated after his meeting with the management and employees, “this is a large, growing company with an international presence that in addition to all this distributes part of its profits to its employees. It also offers them a number of other benefits (medical care, etc.), and recently established an Energy Community with employees as shareholders who can thus have cheap or free electricity in their home.

“We encourage such initiatives as a government and the Ministry of Labor, because we want companies that involve employees in the effort, creating a climate of creative cooperation,” he concluded.

The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, and the Heraklion MP of New Democracy, Maximos Senetakis.
