Panel SA: Ericsson revises 5G growth projection after war and crisis

by

Ericsson’s annual report came out this Tuesday (21) with the Swedish telecommunications company’s prognosis for the expansion of 5G in the world, but the global weakening of the economy and the uncertainties of the war in Ukraine caused a revision of the company’s forecasts for 2022 in around 100 million signatures.

For 2027, the year in which the technology should become dominant, according to the company’s projections, there will be 4.4 billion 5G users worldwide.

By the end of this year, it should reach 1 billion. In the first quarter, the number of subscriptions grew by 70 million to around 620 million.

According to Ericsson, which is one of the world’s leading providers of 5G equipment, competing with giants Huawei and Nokia, the technology is expanding faster than all previous generations of mobile connectivity, and global mobile network data traffic doubled in the last two years.

4G still shows growth rates, up from 70 million to 4.9 billion in the first quarter. Later this year, the technology is expected to peak at 5 billion before starting to drop to 3.5 billion in 2027 following the migration of subscribers to 5G.
