Technology companies expand their offer of products and services awaiting 5G

by

Digital habits are already ingrained in the Brazilian population, from the “anywhere office” to the consumption of streaming services.

“Today, it’s not even about remote work anymore,” says Luis Mangi, vice president at Gartner, a research and consulting giant. People want freedom to decide where to work.

According to the company’s survey, 14% of workers choose to go to the office every day and 19% prefer to work from home, but the majority (67%) want to be able to complete the journey from anywhere.

In entertainment, it has been no different. Subscriptions to on-demand services, which exploded in social isolation, are still on the rise.

And to handle the huge volume of data in circulation, you need a robust and fast infrastructure.

Broadband operator: Vivo

Company already operates 5G in locations in São Paulo, Rio and Brasília

At Vivo, elected the best broadband operator, with 23% of mentions in the Datafolha survey, 5G is already a reality.

“Whoever has a smartphone that allows navigation in the fifth generation can already have the experience in some locations in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Brasília”, says Marcio Fabbris, vice president of B2C (direct-to-consumer business) at the company.

“And we are prepared for expansion.” The new technology will enable applications in environments that demand ultra-high speeds and ultra-low latency (response time) — as an increasingly digital world demands.

Over the last few years, Vivo has been working on its network infrastructure to meet the expected increase in traffic with the arrival of 5G. Despite the difficulties imposed by the health crisis, the fiber optic expansion project reached 75 new cities. Today, there are approximately 20.5 million covered households in 341 municipalities — the largest network in Latin America. The idea is to reach 29 million by the end of 2024.

With social isolation, the ultravelocity internet entered the category of essential services.

“Thanks to the telecommunications networks, people continued to work, young people and children continued to study, families were connected. The economy continued to function”, says Fabbris.

Mobile operator: Vivo

Company maintained investment level during pandemic

Vivo was also considered the best mobile operator, with the preference of 34% of Brazilians.

Even with the difficulties imposed by the pandemic, the company maintained the level of investment in the country, around R$ 8 billion annually.

“One of the main focuses was, and continues to be, to take optical fiber to the customer’s home and further consolidate our leadership in the mobile network”, says the executive Fabbris.

In mobile coverage, there are 85 million accesses and, with the acquisition of assets from Oi, the company, according to Fabbris, will absorb 12.5 million customers over the next few years.

“We are in about 5,000 Brazilian cities, with 97% of the population covered and 33% of market share, with the leadership in the Brazilian market.”

Sartphone to access the internet: Samsung

South Korean has 23 models ready for new speed

Vice President of the Mobile Devices Division at Samsung Brazil, Antonio Quintas says that his sector, especially smartphones, is one of the last to suffer from crises and one of the first to emerge from them.

“This is due to the very role that smartphones have come to play in our lives, becoming essential items,” he says. “Much of our routine is focused on tasks that we perform on the screen of mobile devices, such as working, studying, shopping and also entertaining.”

Among the emerging economies, along with South Africa, Brazil leads the use of smartphones, according to a survey carried out by the American Pew Research Center.

Of every 10 adults in the country, 6 have such a phone. Among Brazilians aged between 18 and 34, this rate rises to 85%, the highest among the BRICS. In advanced countries, the average is 76%.

With a third of the votes, Samsung was elected the best smartphone maker for browsing the internet, in a survey conducted by Datafolha.

Of South Korean origin, the company, says Quintas, has launched the largest selection of 5G devices in Brazil, with 23 models in various price ranges, to meet a wide variety of styles and needs.

“5G will open up a world of possibilities,” he says. “It will enable faster, more stable connections, allowing people to connect in entirely new ways.”

Samsung participated in the end-to-end development of the new technology. “After more than a decade of driving advances in 5G technology, we are focused on ensuring that everyone has access to the next-generation experiences that this connectivity allows,” says Quintas.

“Our search for innovation is daily. No wonder we are recognized worldwide for promoting technological revolutions with extreme impact on people’s lives, empowering them in their routines.”

Computer for browsing the internet: Samsung

The brand has a wide network of stores and technical assistance

Samsung has a keen eye on Brazil, says Quintas, vice president of the mobile device division.

The care is reflected in the construction of a robust structure to serve consumers in approximately 300 stores and kiosks in several shopping centers, in addition to its own online store and a wide network of partner retailers. There are 350 technical assistance throughout the country.

These numbers can help explain the preference of 17% of Brazilians, who chose the brand as the best computer for browsing the internet, according to a survey by Datafolha. In the North region, this index rises to 25%.

The company has two research and development centers in the country, one in Manaus and the other in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo.

“We work to meet all consumer needs and desires, bringing to the national market what is most innovative in the technology industry, expanding the offer of products manufactured in Brazil”, says Quintas.

“For this, we maintain constant contact with studies and research to understand the behaviors and needs of consumers.”

This concern is also reflected in the launch of new products, in the most diverse price ranges —one of Samsung’s most fundamental purposes, according to the executive, is to democratize innovations.
