An employee of Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) says in a statement to Sheet which was harassed by Pedro Guimarães, president of the institution. She claims to have been pulled by the neck and to have been in shock after the episode.

Afraid of suffering retaliation from the bank’s command, the woman asked to have her identity preserved – she will be called by the fictitious name of Roberta in this article.

According to her, the harassment of Pedro Guimarães happened in front of everyone, inside and outside the institution. The case was revealed by the Metrópoles portal on Tuesday (28), which reports the existence of an investigation by the Federal Public Ministry.

The case narrated to Sheet by Roberta has not yet reached the authorities. “I didn’t speak up before with fear and shame, and now I feel guilty because I think if I had spoken before, other women wouldn’t have gone through what I went through, or worse,” she says.

Roberta says that, on one occasion, she was alone with the president of the bank, when he asked if she “was with him”. The employee understood, at the time, that the question was about the government. She would then have answered yes.

“Then when I went to leave, he pulled me by the neck and said: ‘I really want you’. I left the room, in shock and crying”, she says. “Then, at another time, he already ran his hand around my waist and lowered it, but I left before it got worse.”

According to the employee, Guimarães also has the habit of “pinching” women.

“People accept abuse out of fear of retaliation, of its power, that is, losing your role. It takes you out of a prominent position, which you studied and are qualified to be there, to put you in a role far below. overnight, without any warning,” he said.

Guimarães, in addition to being president of Caixa, is close to President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). Behind the scenes of the government, advisers claim that he has already applied for the vice seat on the slate of the Chief Executive.

With the disclosure of the harassment accusations, members of the Palácio do Planalto began to say that their stay in government is unsustainable.

In addition to wearing down the government, it damages the president’s reelection campaign. Bolsonaro seeks to improve his performance especially among women, a share of the electorate in which he has high rejection.

This Thursday, given the repercussion of the case, Caixa canceled an event that would take place on the morning of this Wednesday (29) with the presence of Guimarães.

The bank had scheduled a statement and a press conference on the 2022/2023 Crop Year.

Members of Bolsonaro’s campaign say that, if the allegations of harassment against the president of Caixa are proven, he should leave the post.

The president’s allies say he must take action himself. Despite this, they minimize the impact that the denunciations have on the reelection project.

According to the Metrópoles portal, at least five Caixa employees accuse Guimarães of sexual harassment. In one of the reports, one of them says that a person connected to the president of the bank asked what they would do “if the president” wanted to “have sex with you?”.

According to the whistleblower, he was in the pool and “looked like a porpoise showing off”. In addition, employees received calls to go to Guimarães’ room, among other reports.

wanted by Sheet to comment on the allegations, the president of Caixa did not respond. To Metrópoles, the bank reported ignorance about the accusations.
