Ministry of Economy will release its own monthly activity indicator

by

The Ministry of Economy announced this Thursday (25th) that it will release the IAE (Economic Activity Indicator) monthly, calculated by the Economic Policy Secretariat (SPE), and in October the index rose by 2% over the same month of last year.

According to the folder, the biggest increase in activity was registered in information services (+8.4%), followed by the growth seen in transport (+7.2%) and other services (+6.5%).

On the other hand, there was a contraction in the manufacturing industry (-4.9%) and commerce (-3.3%).

The IAE uses high-frequency data that allow real-time monitoring, such as values from State and Federal Revenue invoices, electricity consumption and mobility indicators.

The indicator will be released between the 10th and 20th of each month, with the availability of data for the five subsectors mentioned, in addition to the aggregated indicator.

The initiative comes at a time when the economic agents’ estimates for the activity, which are more pessimistic, continue to distance themselves from those outlined by the SPE.

While the secretariat forecasts an increase in GDP of 5.1% this year and 2.1% in 2022, the market forecasts an expansion of 4.8% and 0.7%, respectively, according to the latest Focus bulletin.

The Secretary for Economic Policy, Adolfo Sachsida, has reinforced the belief in a better performance for 2022 than that calculated by economists, mainly due to the expectation of absorbing about 5 million new workers in the labor market over the next 12 months, with 3 .4 million in the informal sector.
