Eurostat: Unemployment fell in May in the eurozone and the EU.

Unemployment in the eurozone fell to 6.6% in May, from 6.7% in April and 8.1% in May 2021, according to Eurostat data released today.

In the EU, unemployment was at 6.1% in May, stable compared to the previous month and reduced from 7.3% in May 2021.

Eurostat estimates that 13.066 million men and women in the EU, of whom 11.004 million in the euro area, were unemployed in May 2022.

The highest unemployment rates in the EU are recorded in Spain (13.1%) and Italy (8.1%), while the lowest rates are recorded in the Czech Republic (2.5%) and Germany (2.8%).

In terms of young people (under 25), the unemployment rate in the euro area stood at 13.1% and 13.3% in the EU, up from 13.8% last month. Spain has the highest youth unemployment rate (27.1%), followed by Sweden (21.9%), Italy (20.5%), Slovakia (20.3%) and Portugal (19.8%). %).

It is noted that there are no Eurostat data on unemployment in Greece in May 2022. It is recalled that in April 2022 the unemployment rate in Greece was at 12.7% and the youth unemployment rate at 36.8%.
