The minister confirmed that the unfreezing of pensions is valid from the beginning of the new year, the abolition of the solidarity contribution for pensioners and the start of the procedures for the new increase in the minimum wage

The government will exhaust every opportunity to provide support to the citizens in view of the difficult winter, as he declared speaking to SKAI and the show “Today”the Minister of Labour Kostis Hatzidakis.

The minister confirmed that it is true unfreezing of pensions from the beginning of the new year, abolition of the solidarity levy for the pensioners but also the start of the procedures for the new increase in the minimum wage: “I spoke to you completely honestly, I do not hide the difficulties that will exist due to the conditions prevailing on the planet and the energy crisis. But the Recovery Fund will proceed as well as various reforms in other ministries. Of course, our commitment to unfreeze pensions after 12 years from 1/1/23, which is also provided by the legislation, applies. We will have the abolition of the solidarity levy for pensioners which is also important and as is done every year the procedures to determine the increase of the new minimum wage will also begin.

As for the increase in pensions, it will result from the mathematical formula that adds the price index to the increase in GDP, dividing the total by two

“We are monitoring developments, no country can completely escape the consequences of an international crisis. Only magicians and miracle workers would do this and we do not claim such a role”, the Minister emphasized

For the support measures that are on the table emphasized that the government will exhaust every possibility: “We don’t want to make benefits that are thoughtless and we find them in front of us afterwards. In no case, however, do we want to remain indifferent to the social problem. The statistics on the intensity of the aid given in relation to the GDP by the Greek government are among the largest in the EU”, added the Minister.
