Greek exports: New record in the first five months of 2022

In addition to the positive developments at the level of exports, SEVE underlines its concern about the speed with which imports are also “running” in our country, which in the first five months were recorded to have increased by 50.1% compared to the corresponding period last year.

A positive course followed in May 2022 as well Greek exportswhich breaking the barrier of 20 billion euros in the first five months of this year, they set a new record and reached 20.5 billion euros, compared to 15.2 billion euros in the corresponding period last year (+34.9%) and 12.2 billion euros in 2020 (+67 .8%). This is what the Exporters Association of Northern Greece points out in today’s announcement, disclosing the data of the Hellenic Statics Authority, which was processed by the Institute of Export Research and Studies (IEES) of SEBE.

However, in addition to the positive developments at the level of exports, SEVE underlines his concern about the speed with which imports into our country “run”., which in the first five months of this year were recorded increased by 50.1%, compared to the corresponding period last year. The data on imports in our country “intensifies the concern arising from the widening of the trade deficit, as the value of imports exceeds the value of exports by more than 70%”, the SEBE characteristically points out in its announcement.

As for her value of exports for the month of May this year, SEVE points out in its announcement that it amounted to 4.7 billion euros, from 3.2 billion euros in May 2021 and 2.1 billion euros in May 2020, “with the increase in absolute value being 1.5 billion euros compared to last year and 2.6 billion euros compared to the year before”highlights features.

Imports stood at 7.8 billion euros from 4.9 billion euros in May last year (+60.3%), with the trade deficit thus forming at 3.1 billion euros, increased by 84.7% compared to May 2021, as emphasized in the SEBE announcement.

Excluding petroleum products, May exports this year amounted to 2.9 billion euros, up from 2.2 billion euros in May 2021 and 1.7 billion euros in May 2020, with the percentage increase at 33.8% and 69.7% respectively. Imports amounted to 5.5 billion euros in May this year and the trade deficit stood at 2.5 billion euros.

SEVE characterizes the fact that as a particularly positive element all sectors recorded an increase in exports in the first five months of this year compared to the corresponding period of 2021, namely: industrial by 43.5%, food +18.1%, chemicals +8%, machinery and vehicles +33%, various industrial products +22.9%, raw materials +13.5%, beverages and tobacco +6.5%, fats and oils +6.7% and unclassified products +41%.

It is underlined that of all Greek exports, 11.3 billion euros, i.e. 55%, were sent to the EU member states.
