Executive Marcelo Odebrecht and Novonor (formerly Odebrecht) reached an agreement to end the legal disputes between the company and the former president of the group, who was arrested by Operation Car Wash.

The agreement was signed last Thursday (7). The information was anticipated by the newspaper Valor Econômico and confirmed by Sheet.

According to a company note, a consensus was reached for the extinction of the processes initiated in 2020, through concessions by both parties, which had a professional mediator.

“Novonor SA informs that, on July 7, 2022, it concluded a composition that ends all disputes between the Company and former executive Marcelo Odebrecht. Through reciprocal concessions, which had the support of a professional mediator, Novonor and Marcelo Odebrecht reached the necessary consensus for the extinction of the processes initiated in 2020”, says the note.

Also according to the company, Marcelo is no longer a shareholder of Novonor and will no longer hold any position in the group.

The legal fights between Marcelo and the group became public in the last three years. Last year, the São Paulo court annulled an agreement in which Odebrecht committed to pay R$52 million to Marcelo, at the time he was imprisoned in Curitiba.

During Lava Jato, Odebrecht recognized the payment of US$ 788 million in bribes and donations to campaigns in 12 countries, including Brazil. In 2016, the company signed a leniency agreement to guarantee the right to continue providing services to the government.

Upon entering into judicial recovery, the company had recognized that it owed the group’s heir R$20 million in fees for the period in which Marcelo was responsible for the group.

Marcelo left prison in 2017, after two and a half years, after having a regime progression. He was fired by the company two years later.

In 2020, Odebrecht announced that it would change its name to Novonor (a portmanteau of the words “new” and “north”), as part of a policy to disassociate the group from corruption cases.
