Natural gas: Silent fish from Putin – Nightmare scenarios for Europe

by

12 countries in Europe are affected by the partial interruption of gas supply. No one can say for sure whether Nord Stream 1, the most important Russian gas pipeline to Europe, will be turned back on.

Europe is waiting with bated breath to see what Russian President Vladimir Putin will eventually do with the flow of natural gas. Nord Stream 1, the most important Russian gas pipeline to Europe, has been shut off for a second day and no one can say for sure whether it will be reopened. Putin, however, keeps a fishy silence.

12 countries in Europe are affected by the partial interruption of gas supply. The head of the international energy authority warned that this energy crisis is the biggest the planet has ever experienced both in terms of scope and complexity.

Nightmare scenario from Goldman Sachs

Goldman Sachs presented a nightmare scenario for European economies in the event that Russia permanently cuts off natural gas supplies.
It warns that electricity and gas bills for households will soar to €500 a month.

Specifically, it predicts a jump in energy costs by approximately 65% compared to today, when the price of a megawatt hour is already at unimaginable heights, exceeding 170 euros.

In this case, an average European household that consumes about 3 megawatt hours of electricity and 15 megawatt hours of natural gas per year, will have to pay in one year about 5,650 euros for electricity and natural gas, that is 470-500 euros per month.

According to the investment giant, this cost will be increased by 300% (!!) compared to the summer of 2020.

As far as European industries are concerned, they will be faced with a rise in energy costs of the order of 65% if the supply of Russian gas is interrupted.
