See where the electricity bill rate will be reduced

by

The reduction of up to 5.26% in the price of electricity comes into effect from this Wednesday (13). Ten distributors were required to correct the charge by Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency).

The correction complies with the law that determines the full refund to energy consumers of tax credits after the decision that excluded ICMS from the PIS/Cofins calculation basis.

According to Aneel, the revisions in the tariffs of the EMS (Energisa Mato Grosso do Sul) and EMT (Energisa Mato Grosso) distributors were postponed, as the credits have not yet been authorized by the Federal Revenue Service. The review of the distributors Equatorial Alagoas and Light were postponed due to preliminary decisions in court.

“In the case of distributors whose tariff processes have not yet taken place in 2022, the Aneel collegiate informs that it will make the proper calculations of the impact of the return at the time of the adjustment/revision of each company”, says the agency, in a note.

ICMS ceiling

Another measure that can lead to a reduction in the electricity bill is the implementation of a ceiling for ICMS rates. According to Aneel, the application of an ICMS ceiling depends on the regulation by the Treasury Departments of the state governments.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, these two measures, combined with the capitalization of Eletrobras – which earmarked BRL 5 billion for affordable tariffs in 2022 – can promote reductions of more than 20% in the energy bill in some states.
