The lag in the IR table worries unionists involved in salary negotiations this year. They insist that the goal is to get inflation reset plus the real increase. However, after the readjustments, the tax discount may be higher.
The tendency to resolve the imbalance should appear in the salary campaigns of unions such as bank workers and metal workers, which begin in the second half of the year and, historically, lead to other categories.
In the case of metalworkers, the average salary is R$4,000. With this value, the IR rate is 22.5%. If the salary exceeds R$ 4,664, the discount rises to 27.5%, according to the president of the State Federation of Metalworkers, Erick Silva.
Even raising the value of the IR abatement and running the risk of weakening the salary gain, unionists say that the priority will be the real increase. The alternative raised by some would be to compensate with other benefits such as an increase in PLR (sharing in profits and results), food stamps and others.
“Without the readjustment, we would be punishing the worker again”, says Juvandia Moreira, president of Contraf-CUT (confederation of workers in the financial sector). For Erick Silva, the debate on the correction of the IR table will only be for next year.
