Natural gas: New rise to 192 euros per megawatt hour amid Russian blackmail

Gazprom announced on Monday that it plans to further reduce gas deliveries through the Nord Stream pipeline to 20% from Wednesday

The price of natural gas is moving upwards again today Tuesday, amid increasing concern even about a complete interruption of the flow from Gazprom.

The price of Dutch natural gas rose 9% to 192 euros per megawatt hour.

Gazprom said on Monday it plans to further cut gas deliveries through the Nord Stream pipeline to 20% from Wednesday, citing maintenance work on another Siemens turbine. Gazprom claimed that it had received from Siemens the documents for the maintenance of the turbine of the pipeline, which was “blocked” in Canada and has not returned to Moscow, however it maintains that these specific documents do not address the risks highlighted by the state controlled Russian company. Siemens accused the Russian company of bureaucratic procedures.

Meanwhile, EU energy ministers are meeting today to discuss the ‘Saving Gas for a Safe Winter’ plan to tackle the situation.
