The unemployed amounted to 596,056 people, marking a decrease of 130,016 people compared to May 2021 (17.9%) and an increase of 4,495 people compared to April 2022
The country’s unemployment rate was 12.5% in May this year, compared to 15.6% in May 2021 and the upwardly revised 12.6% in April 2022. The unemployed reached 596,056 people, a decrease of 130,016 people compared to May 2021 (17.9%) and an increase of 4,495 people compared to April 2022 (0.8%).
At women the unemployment rate rose to 16.5% from 19.9% and for men to 9.2% from 12%.
Against large age groups, in the 15-24 age group the unemployment rate was 30.1% from 37.1% and in the 25-74 age group at 11.5% from 14.6%.
Also according to the ELSTAT labor force survey, employed amounted to 4,170,361 peoplemarking an increase of 228,355 people compared to May 2021 (5.8%) and an increase of 53,362 people compared to April 2022 (1.3%).
While, the people under 75 years of age not included in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (those not working or looking for work), amounted to 3,067,657 people, a decrease of 127,661 people compared to May 2021 (4%) and by 60,520 people compared to April 2022 (1.9%).
