Folha-Mauá Ranking: Chevrolet Trailblazer and Toyota SW4 are the most agile diesel SUVs

by

With queues that exceed six months, diesel versions of the Jeeps Commander and Compass have achieved good results in consumer tests. In performance measurements, Chevrolet Traiblazer and Toyota SW4 shared the top positions.

The jeeps produced in Goiana (PE) share the 2.0 turbo engine (170 hp) and use a nine-speed automatic transmission. In urban use, Compass recorded an average of 10.1 km/h.

The Commander, which offers seven seats, was the most economical on the road: an average of 17.2 km/l.
Bigger and with off-road vocation, Trailblazer and SW4 made use of the strength of their 2.8 turbo engines, both with more than 200 hp.

The Toyota model was the fastest in the recovery test, while the Chevrolet was the best in the acceleration.

HOW TESTS ARE DONE

To measure the performance of cars, the IMT (Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia) uses the V-Box, equipment that uses a GPS signal.

The acceleration and resumption tests are carried out on the ZF company track, in Limeira (São Paulo countryside).

The stage that checks consumption in the city is 27 km long. To simulate a road trip at 90 km/h, engineers drive for 31 km. Both routes are in São Caetano do Sul (ABC), where the institute’s headquarters are located.

If the car is flex, two measurements are made: one with ethanol, the other with gasoline.

The consumption of electric models is measured through the charger installed in the IMT. The test calculates the cost to run 100 km in urban and road modes.
