Petrobras announced this Thursday (28) that it will cut prices for QAV (aviation kerosene), aviation gasoline and asphalt starting next Monday (28). In the morning, the company had already announced a reduction in the price of gasoline.
The price of jet fuel will be reduced by 2.6%. Aviation gasoline, used by smaller aircraft, will drop 5.7%. The price of asphalt will be cut by 4.5%.
The price adjustments for QAV, aviation gasoline and asphalt are monthly and defined through a contractual formula negotiated with the distributors of the products.
The airline industry has been complaining about constant price increases, which have an impact on ticket prices. The rise in the price of asphalt, on the other hand, motivates requests for renegotiation of contracts between construction companies and the government.
Earlier this month, Abear (an association that represents airlines such as Gol and Latam and Voepass) again defended a review of Petrobras’ pricing policy, after the state-owned company announced a 3.9% increase in the average price of QAV.
In a statement, the company clarified that the cuts will be made in prices charged by refineries, which sell the products to distributors, responsible for filling stations at airports or for selling asphalt to final consumers.
“It is important to note that the Brazilian market is open to free competition, and there are no legal, regulatory or logistical restrictions for other companies to act as producers or importers of QAV, asphalt and GAV [gasolina de aviação]”, said Petrobras.
“In this way, the pricing method seeks balance with the market and follows the variations in the value of the product and the exchange rate, up and down, mitigating the daily volatility of international quotations and the exchange rate.”
Also following international oil prices, the price of gasoline sold by Petrobras was reduced for the second time this month, with an accumulated drop of 8.6%.
On Wednesday (27), the collegiate approved a proposal that guarantees it the attribution of supervising compliance with the fuel price policy sold by the state-owned company, with the objective of expanding the shield against government interference.
