“For August alone, we announced subsidies amounting to 1.136 billion euros precisely to support households and small and medium-sized enterprises”
To support households and small and medium-sized businesses while the energy crisis lasts, the Minister of Environment and Energy has pledged through SKAI Kostas Skrekas. In the shadow of RAE’s announcement about the phenomena of misleading reports and advertisements from suppliers, Mr. Skrekas warned that the Government’s pelecys will be heavy on phenomena of unfair practices.
“We announced only for August subsidies that arrive 1.136 billion euros precisely to support households and small and medium-sized enterprises. This will continue as long as the energy crisis lasts,” said the minister.
“Our main priority is to keep bills at affordable levels through the mechanism of capping the compensation of electricity companies and an indirect cap at retail, where we absorb 90% of the mark-ups,” he explained.
“The energy crisis is the worst energy crisis since the 1970s, even worse than the oil crises of the 70s, which were limited only to the price of oil, today’s is a much more difficult crisis with high prices for oil, natural gas, energy” explained Mr. Skrekas.
As he explained, “we are not going to allow the phenomena of unfair commercial practices and circumvention of the legislative framework we voted for consumer protection”.
“We saw from a few suppliers changing the fixed charges, and increasing them unimaginably, we passed a provision with a ceiling of up to 5 euros per month for the fixed charges. We will not allow phenomena of profiteering and misleading consumers, we will protect consumers, we will not tolerate abusive behavior from anyone, the penalty will be heavy”. Suppliers, he noted, should clearly inform their consumers about the price of electricity they sell, and we announce every month the subsidies… the consumer will know how much he is buying electricity.
Kostas Skrekas reminded that “we passed a provision of the law that allows the consumer the change of provider free of charge without penalty, without any compensation, he will certainly have to pay his previous bill.”
He also reminded that the adjustment clause for at least one year is abolished for at least one year and suppliers will have to must inform its consumerss for next month’s prices. “It is already done through the RAE website and the consumer can compare prices and choose which supplier is the most competitive,” noted Mr. Skrekas.
