by

Businessman Abilio Diniz, 85, said on Monday night (1st) that the death of his son, also businessman João Paulo Diniz, 58, was the hardest blow he could receive. “I’m floored,” he said in a post on social media. “The pain I feel is inexplicable.”

João Paulo died on Sunday night (31), in Parati, Rio de Janeiro. The cause of death has not yet been released. According to information, he suffered a sudden illness.

The businessman had a congenital disease: apical cardiomyopathy (increase in the muscles of the heart muscle, the myocardium), a condition that increases the risk of serious arrhythmias and sudden death, according to cardiologists who have treated him in the past.

But only the doctors who are currently monitoring him and the autopsy report will be able to indicate the reason for death.

According to Abilio, the son was “that guy that everyone liked to have around”. He stated that sport was one of the biggest connections between the two and said that João Paulo became one of his best friends.

“Son, I ask God to receive you with lots of light and give strength to our whole family to face this sad and painful moment,” he wrote.

The businessman thanked him for the 58 years of living with his son, called his great companion.

“I don’t know how I’m going to live without you, but I also know that, somehow, I have to make it on behalf of my wife, my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” said Abilio.

He thanked the messages received after the death of João Paulo and affirmed that they help to have the courage to move forward.

The wake and burial took place this Monday and were restricted to family and friends.

JOÃO PAULO HAD ESCAPE FROM DEATH IN 2001

In July 2001, João Paulo survived a helicopter crash in São Sebastião (SP). At the time, his girlfriend, model Fernanda Vogel, died.

In addition to him, Abilio Diniz is the father of Pedro Paulo, Ana Maria, Adriana, Rafaela and Miguel, the last two children of his second marriage to economist Geyze Marchesi, an employee who made a career at Grupo Pão de Açúcar.

The federal government released a note of condolence for the death of João Paulo. “The President of the Republic prays to God to receive him in His arms and give strength and faith to all his family and friends to overcome this difficult moment”, says a text signed by the Special Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom).
