SA Panel: Unionists criticize Selic high and speak in protest at BC headquarters

by

Union centrals reacted to Copom’s decision to raise the Selic to 13.75% per year.

UGT says it will organize a demonstration at the Central Bank’s headquarters in São Paulo. But there is no confirmed date yet.

For Força Sindical, the increase is a “wrong and unnecessary medicine, with unwanted and harmful side effects”.

The trade union central says that the BC lost the chance to “stimulate job creation, production and consumption”, affecting workers who are already suffering from unemployment.

The Central Bank committee still left open the possibility of an additional adjustment of 0.25 point at the September meeting.
