The production of light and heavy vehicles increased by 33.4% in July compared to the same month in 2021. As a result, the accumulated drop throughout the year was 0.2%. The result represents an improvement in the scenario, but also shows the breakdown of the global production chain.
Compared to June, the increase is 7.5%. The data released this Friday (5th) by Anfavea (association of automakers) include passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, buses and trucks.
July ended with 218,950 units assembled – the best result since November 2020 occurred in a month that is generally low due to holiday periods.
Production has adapted to the shortage of components, which brings changes in schedules. Volkswagen, for example, went on collective vacation this week at the plant in Taubaté (São Paulo countryside). The unit produces the Gol compact hatch, which was the best-selling car in July.
Anfavea expects the second half of the year to end with a sharp rise in vehicle manufacturing compared to the same period in 2021.
“The curve is exactly the opposite. In the second half of last year, it was the most serious moment of the semiconductor crisis”, says Márcio de Lima Leite, president of Anfavea.
Despite the improvement in the supply of components, the automakers accumulate 24 production stops throughout 2022, always motivated by failures in the supply of parts.
Among the factors that contributed to the July result is the assembly of the new Citroën C3 stock, which will be launched in the third quarter. The production line is located in the city of Porto Real (RJ) and is part of the Stellantis group. The car should already be on the market, but there were delays in the launch due to the lack of semiconductors.
Another brand that seeks to accelerate the manufacture of its products is Honda. The new HR-V arrives at dealerships soon: the automaker has opened the pre-sale period.
The new cars will debut at a time of predominance of direct sales. “The market, despite a growth, we perceive a greater volume of sales for fleet owners”, says the president of Anfavea.
Leite says that this is not a very big difference compared to previous months, but it is necessary to pay attention to this indicator in the face of difficulties in retail.
“High interest rates and credit restrictions create difficulties, the sector depends a lot on credit”, says the executive.
In total, direct sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles represented 51.9% of registrations, according to Jato Dynamics Brasil.
182 thousand units were sold in the last month, an increase of 2.2% over June. The numbers are based on Renavan (National Registry of Motor Vehicles).
Compared to July 2021, sales grew by 3.7%. In the first seven months of 2022, however, there is an accumulated drop of 12%.
