“We have to know where we put gas. Let’s avoid gas stations that pose risks,” said Apostolos Kalantzopoulos, secretary general of the Attica Gas Stationers’ Union
Through ERT, the Apostolos Kalantzopoulos general secretary of the Attica Petrol Dealers Union.
In a related report by ERT, the problem is highlighted by presenting the opinions of engineers, gas stations and experts in the automotive field.
“The adulterated fuels have effects and deposits on the engine. Several parts of the car are getting cheaper (seals, injectors, valves, fuel system, etc.) said Vassilis Tonas, a car mechanic in Ilion Attica stressing that “over time (adulterated fuel) wears down the engine internally and corrodes the system supply” with the repair cost reaching 1,000 euros.
“The low price of fuel usually it creates problems in the cars and in the pocket of the ownerswho will be forced to be taken to the repair shop either with roadside assistance or with problems with the cost of repairing the vehicle being exorbitant”, argued journalist Giorgos Andris, calling on consumers not to look at the low prices because in the end they will pay dearly.
“As soon as consumers realize that something is happening in the behavior of the engine, they should stop it because as long as they drive with adulterated fuel, they create further problems, which means increased repair costs,” added Mr. Andris.
“If the vehicle is very modern the car itself warns youwhich goes into safe mode so as not to cause much damage”, he added.
For his part, Apostolos Kalantzopoulos, general secretary of the Union of Petrol Dealers of the Attica region, speaking about the phenomenon that has recently taken on enormous proportions, stated that “we must know where we put petrol. Let’s avoid gas stations that pose risks.” He himself, through his institutional role, called on the State to carry out more checks on the circulation of fuel.
“The solvents that are mixed with fuels today are too many and perhaps undetectable in relation to the percentage they are mixed in,” admitted Mr. Kalatzopoulos.
He stated that the gas station industry cannot prosecute the offenders but instead the State should do random checks and tighten the penalties.
