5g will be activated in Rio, Florianópolis, Vitória and Palmas in the second

by

Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, Vitória and Palmas receive the 3.5 GHz 5G next Monday (22) after release from Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) this Thursday (18).

The decision was taken by the Gaispi (Group for Monitoring the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems), which met this Thursday morning (18) to discuss the next steps for the implementation of 5G in the country.

After the release, the country will have 12 capitals with the technology. 5G is now available in Brasília, Belo Horizonte, João Pessoa, Porto Alegre, São Paulo, Curitiba, Goiânia and Salvador.

Curitiba, Goiânia and Salvador received the 5G on Tuesday (16). Rio de Janeiro was part of the group, but was withdrawn after a report from the agency’s technical area showed the impossibility of installing filters to avoid interference in time for the Gaispi meeting that took place last Friday (12).

The 5G schedule has been delayed due to the lack of equipment coming from China, which has decreed a lockdown because of a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The imported equipment is filters that avoid interference. Therefore, at first, the agency granted a deadline until the end of September for all capitals to have 5G antennas. Now the new deadline will end in late November.

The goal defined by Anatel for operators is from a 5g antenna every 100 thousand inhabitants. In Rio, operators applied for licensing 723 stations. In Florianópolis, 43. In Palmas, 21, and in Vitória, 29.
