Eve, Embraer’s electric aircraft division, starts the first simulation of urban air mobility (UAM) in Chicago, in the United States, in September.
The flight will be made with a model helicopter from the company Blade Air Mobility, but it will serve as a test for eVTOL, Embraer’s vertical take-off and landing aircraft, also known as a flying car.
There will be three weeks of tests, starting ground studies on September 12th and passenger flights on the 14th. In this first phase, the intention is to create a network of infrastructure connections in Chicago using electric aircraft. The data will be sent to the city hall after the tests.
The test site will be the Veltiport Chicago, a heliport in the center of the city that was designed to receive the eVTOL. The aircraft will transport passengers between two helipads in the city, Schaumburg and Tinley Park.
These flights went on sale on Blade’s website for $150 and are expected to last around 15 minutes.
According to the company, the simulation encompasses a consortium of partners in addition to Blade, with companies such as Republic Airways, Halo Aviation, Vertiport Chicago, Village of Tinley Park, Village of Schaumburg, Acciona, SkyWest and Speedbird Aero.
