Gazprom: End of natural gas deliveries to French Engie from Thursday

by

Gazprom emphasizes that it did not receive the company’s debt for July deliveries today and, according to a relevant decree signed by Putin, it is cutting off its supply

Russian energy giant Gazprom announced today that it is completely suspending natural gas deliveries from Thursday to the French group Engiedue to non-payment for deliveries made in July.

“Gazprom Export has informed Engie of the complete suspension of natural gas deliveries from September 1, 2022 until the payment of all debts for deliveries,” the Russian group said in a press release published on Tuesday evening on its Telegram account.

According to a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the end of March, “the delivery of natural gas to a foreign buyer who has not made payment within the specified period stipulated in the contract is prohibited.” Citing the decree, Gazprom underlines that it did not receive the full amount due for July deliveries today.

The management of France’s Engie did not respond to a request by the French Agency (AFP) for comment. The French company has assured that has already put measures in place in order to be able to serve its customers even in the event of a complete interruption of gas supply from Gazprom. Russian gas deliveries to Engie had already been significantly reduced following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
