Representatives of bars, restaurants and shopping malls, sectors hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic last year, maintain optimistic projections for the recovery of their activities in the coming months, despite the arrival of the omicron variant.

“The consumer’s willingness to return with strength to frequent bars and restaurants and the increase in employment are leading us to a real growth of 3% in this second half, compared to 2019”, says Para Paulo Solmucci, president of Abrasel, industry association .

He predicts that the segment will reach the end of this semester with the generation of 600 thousand new jobs. From July to September, 450,000 vacancies were created, according to the association.

For Abrasce, which represents shopping centers, the continued expansion of the service sector tends to contribute to the tenants’ businesses. Data released last week showed a 1.1% growth in services in the third quarter, when GDP (Gross Domestic Product) fell 0.1%.

According to the organization, the sector should hire 98,000 temporary workers in the last half of this year, equivalent to 10% of its workforce at the end of last year. The account includes employees recruited for the Black Friday promotion season and others who will be working over Christmas.
