Sales of light and heavy vehicles exceeded 200,000 units in August, something that had not yet occurred in 2022.
According to data from Renavam (National Registry of Motor Vehicles), the last month ended with 208,607 registrations. The number includes passenger cars, light commercial vehicles, buses and trucks. It is the best result since December 2020.
There was growth of 14.6% in relation to July. In comparison with August 2021, the increase is 20.7%. In the year, however, there is a drop of 8% compared to the first eight months of last year.
The daily average of sales was 9,070 units, which also represents a significant advance. Anfavea (association of automakers) expects that this level will at least be maintained until the end of the year, with peaks in November and December.
The entity, which in January believed in an increase of 8.5% in sales, revised its projections in July. Now a 1% growth in license plates is expected compared to 2021.
For this to occur, the monthly average of registrations in the last four months will have to be at least equal to the August result.
Production data will be released next week, as well as export and stock figures.
Among the factors that make the industry optimistic are the improvement in the supply of semiconductors and the launch of popular models, such as the new Citroën C3 (from BRL 69,000) and the refurbished Hyundai HB20 (BRL 77,200). ).
But there are still problems that hinder growth in retail, such as high interest rates and the consequent restriction on credit. The calendar doesn’t help either, with the election period being followed by the World Cup.
In the direct sales segment, there is an upward trend in demand from rental companies. The participation of these companies in the total number of licenses has been increasing in the second half of the year.
In July, direct sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles represented 51.9% of registrations, according to Jato Dynamics Brasil.
It is the commercialization to legal entities that justifies the leadership of Fiat Strada and Volkswagen Gol in the ranking of license plates. The models had, respectively, 14,157 and 11,719 units licensed in August. About 80% of these volumes refer to purchases made using CNPJ.
Although the current result is cause for celebration in the automotive industry, last month’s numbers are far from the best result ever recorded.
Exactly 10 years ago, in August 2012, the sector broke the sales record, with 420,000 units sold.
