He explained that in the new support mechanism, there will be three scales with the large percentage of households being in the first scale and those with higher consumption in the second and third.
Very small, almost zero characterized the chances for power outages or electricity with a “bill” from the Minister of Energy Kostas Skrekasspeaking on SKAI TV and the “Today” show.
“In life and when a conventional and energy war is raging, no one can exclude anything, but I repeat that these chances are very small, almost zero”, emphasized the minister.
“Even at the peaks we will have electricity and natural gas and we have done everything necessary so that Greece does not have a big risk of having a “bill” as you say,” said Mr. Skrekas, stressing that Greece faces the smallest risk in relation to energy sufficiency.
He outlined the government’s three aims to:
- To ensure affordable energy prices for households and businesses
- Take regulatory decisions to decouple the price of natural gas from electricity
- To ensure adequacy of supply
Support for electricity bills and the three scales
He assured that electricity bills will continue to absorb 90% to 94% of the increases and that households will be supported regardless of income and whether it is a main or non-main residence.
He explained that in the new mechanism there will be three scales with the large percentage of households being in the first scale and those with higher consumption in the second and third.
“There we will enable those who have a higher consumption if they reduce their energy consumption by 15%, when the settlement bill comes to receive an additional subsidy that will come to the settlement bill from their supplier,” said the energy minister.
What will happen to natural gas?
Regarding natural gas, he emphasized that the support will be such as to make the price more affordable, but in no case will it be as it was before the crisis, as the price has increased by 7 to 10 times in 1.5 years.
