Unemployment, the end of emergency aid and the drought have worsened the situation of families in Rio Grande do Norte, in municipalities that have returned to live with hunger.
According to Ana (National Water Agency), the state is the most affected by the drought that hits the Northeast — more than half of the Potiguares municipalities are in serious condition. At the same time, the Secretary of State for Labour, Housing and Social Assistance estimates that 370,000 families are in extreme poverty, the highest level in a decade.
In this Wednesday (8) episode, Café da Manhã talks with reporter Renata Moura, who visited cities in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte affected by drought and food insecurity.
The podcast also speaks with historian Adriana Salay, who studies hunger in Brazil, about the effects of extreme weather conditions on people’s lives and about the public policies needed to eradicate this problem.
