The contracting of payroll loans by beneficiaries of Auxílio Brasil will be released this week, said this Monday (26) the Minister of Citizenship, Ronaldo Bento.

The release takes place on the eve of the first round of the presidential election, which will be held on Sunday (2). President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), in second place in polls, is running for reelection.

“This week it will be available to the beneficiary families of Auxílio Brasil, plus this tool to overcome poverty, because there will be a loan at a fair interest rate so that we can give us tools to get out of poverty”, said the minister.

The statements were made at a meeting with businessmen in Salvador, an event organized by the Bahia Business Forum, which brings together the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia and other business entities. Economy minister Paulo Guedes also attended the meeting.

In an interview with journalists, Minister Ronaldo Bento did not say on which day the contracting of loans will be released and did not give details about the fees that will be charged in banking operations.

The minister was asked about the fight against hunger in the country and questioned the data that show the increase in the number of people in a situation of severe food insecurity in the country.

“Hunger is fought, yes, with tools. […] It is a point that is being analyzed and is being faced head-on, without any kind of political narrative, of guessing numbers,” he said.

With the statement, the minister repeated Guedes, who last week questioned the data from the National Survey on Food Insecurity in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic in Brazil, which points to the existence of 33.1 million people living in a situation of food insecurity. serious.

According to Minister Ronaldo Bento, the country has 17 million families in extreme poverty that are served by Auxílio Brasil.

“There is no one in the queue, that is, there is no Brazilian family today, regularly registered in the Single Registry, without receiving the Auxílio Brasil of at least R$ 600”, he said.

The readjustment of Auxílio Brasil and the possibility of contracting loans by beneficiaries are President Jair Bolsonaro’s bets to gain traction in the low-income electorate.

The strategy, however, has not had any effect. According to a Datafolha poll carried out from September 20 to 22, 55% of voters who receive the benefit say that the country’s economic situation has worsened in recent months.

More vulnerable to cumulative increases in food prices and the cost of living, in this group only 21% say they have noticed an improvement in the country, and 23% have not noticed any changes.
