The União Brasil should release the bench, still this Wednesday (5), to support Lula or Bolsonaro in the second round.
The party’s president, Luciano Bivar, will announce the party’s position this Wednesday (5), at 7:30 pm, at the party’s headquarters.
União Brasil’s position on which candidate to support in the second round presidential race was not a consensus among party leaders. Although most states tended to support Bolsonaro, the idea of joining forces with the current president ran into resistance.
This was the case of Luciano Bivar, president of the party, whose desire was to declare support for Lula, but, according to allies, he was not politically able to form an internal articulation that would lead the acronym to that path. ACM Neto, the party’s general secretary and candidate for the government of Bahia, where Lula received 49.73% of the votes, against 24.31% for Bolsonaro, should remain neutral in this second round.
On the other hand, other names of the acronym, such as the re-elected governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes, want to push the legend to Bolsonaro’s camp. Similar signaling was given by Ronaldo Caiado, re-elected in Goiás.
