Nelson de Sá: Elon Musk, ‘arrogant’, launches peace proposals for Ukraine and Taiwan

by

At the beginning of the week, Elon Musk tweeted a controversial peace proposal in Ukraine, including Crimea as part of Russia, with guaranteed water supply, and a new plebiscite in the annexed regions, made by the UN. Justified by the risk of “nuclear war”.

Kiev swore refused, Moscow praised. AND Hu Xijina columnist and former editor of the Chinese Global Times, joked via Twitter that Musk “got too loose”, for “believing too much in US ‘free speech'”, and would “learn a lesson”.

Musk then responded in Chinese, with a saying attributed to Confucius, to question Hu for only criticizing, not acting in the face of the atomic threat: “A man with his hands in his pockets feels arrogant all day” (below).

Musk then launched a new, even more resonant proposal for Taiwan, telling the Financial Times editor: “My recommendation would be to find a special administrative zone for Taiwan that is reasonably palatable.” He justified the projection of a 30% drop in the world economy, in case of occupation by China.

Hu this time praised, “You really are one of the few people in the West who have courage to speak“, as the Global Times and Bloomberg, citing the Chinese foreign ministry, “island of Taiwan could exercise a high degree of autonomy”.

Also the Taiwanese press covered widely, with Lianhe Bao or United Daily News more newsworthy, including Beijing’s new stance, and Ziyou Shibao or Liberty Times, closer to the Taipei government, bringing an article in which Musk is called ” arrogant, false, crazy”.

SYMBOLIC VALUE

On Saturday afternoon (8), the headline in the American Bloomberg was that “Russia rushes to reopen the Crimea bridge”, which in fact happened “few hours after” the attack. The headlines in the New York Times and Washington Post then turned, until Sunday, to the “symbolic value” of the images and the fact that trains and cars had returned to traffic, but not yet trucks.

Some western vehicles, such as the British ITV, also reproduced images of the return of traffic to the bridge on Saturday, “a few hours after” the explosion scenes.

UKRAINE IS BEHIND

Kiev has not claimed responsibility for the attack on the Crimea bridge, but the NYT reported on Saturday, citing an anonymous source, that “Ukraine is behind the attack” and that its “intelligence orchestrated the explosion, using a bomb”.

Kiev also did not accept the attack that killed Russian journalist Daria Dugina in August, but the NYT reported on Thursday (6) that, according to the US government, “parts of the Ukrainian government authorized the car bomb attack near Moscow”. And that “the US did not participate in the attack” and “did not know”.

Via RT, the Kremlin spokesman reacted immediately, saying that the leak could be for the US government to “distance itself from future attacks” by Ukrainians in Russia.

AGAINST THE NARRATIVE

Speaking to Bloomberg TV (above), Columbia University economist Jeffrey Sachs questioned the US role in the Nord Stream pipeline explosion and American coverage of the war:

“I know this goes against our narrative, you’re not allowed to say these things in the West, but the fact is that all over the world, when I talk to people, they think the US did it. our newspapers tell me ‘of course’ [que os EUA fizeram]but it doesn’t show up in our media.”
