Datafolha: Unemployment and inflation weigh more on the vote of the richest

The fight against unemployment and inflation leads the list of factors considered very important for the decision to vote for president in the second round among people with higher income and education, according to a Datafolha survey. The maintenance of Auxílio Brasil at R$ 600 stands out as the most important for the poorest and least educated.

The institute asked what importance the interviewee gives to various topics when deciding on a vote, considering a score from 1 (not at all important) to 5 (very important).

Overall, the reduction of unemployment is identified as a very important issue for 82% of voters. This percentage is 75% among those with elementary education, rises to 84% in the range with secondary education and reaches 86% for those with higher education.

By income range, the percentage starts at 79% for those earning up to two minimum wages per month (R$ 2,424), stays around 85% in the intermediate income ranges and goes to 88% for families in the range above ten minimum wages. (BRL 12,120).

In this case, the 85% of people aged 16 to 34 also stand out.

The unemployment rate in Brazil dropped to 8.9% in the quarter through August, the lowest rate in the comparable historical series since the period ended in August 2015, but it is still above the slightly more than 6% seen about ten years ago.

Inflation

According to Datafolha, the fight against inflation is very important for the vote of 81% of respondents in the general average. The percentage is 77% for people with elementary education and reaches 84% ​​for voters with higher education.

The issue also stands out among voters in the range of two to ten minimum wages (about 85%), a group in which President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is numerically ahead of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the poll of voting intention.

Inflation has declined in recent months, which is explained by a combination of reduced taxes, falling commodity prices in reais and the effect of monetary policy.

Brazil aid

Maintaining Auxílio Brasil at its current value is pointed out by 65% ​​of voters as very important in defining the vote, a percentage that rises to 72% in the elementary school and income brackets up to two minimums — those that concentrate most of the beneficiaries. In the highest income bracket, it is at 49%. It is 70% among voters in the North and Northeast and 60% in the South and Midwest.

Asked who is better able to maintain the aid at this amount, former president Lula surpasses Bolsonaro only among the least educated, those who earn up to 2 minimum wages and those who receive the benefit – ranges in which the PT stands out in the general intention. of votes. Overall, the current president appears ahead of the opponent in this regard (48% to 43%).

For 50% of those receiving the aid, Lula is better able to keep the benefit at R$600, compared to 42% who cite Bolsonaro. For 49% of those who do not receive it, Bolsonaro is the most capable, a figure close to the general average of 48%.

In this first round of poll of the second round, Datafolha heard 2,884 voters in 179 cities, from Wednesday (5) to this Friday (7). Contracted by Folha and TV Globo, the survey is registered with the TSE under the number BR-02012/2022 and has a margin of error of more or less two percentage points.
