Panel SA: Industry representatives reject pressure for the resignation of Fiesp president

by

Large industry entities and unions affiliated with Fiesp say they will not join if they are called to sign a request for Josué Gomes to resign as president of the federation.

Since the end of July, when Fiesp released its guidelines for presidential candidates in a document that cited democracy and respect for the rule of law as essential conditions for Brazil, pressure against Josué began to circulate within the entity because the mention of democracy could provoke Bolsonaro, harming Fiesp’s relationship with the government.

The noise grew in the following weeks, after the leading role assumed by Fiesp in the letters in defense of democracy on August 11, raising conversations that Paulo Skaf, former president of Fiesp and Bolsonaro ally, would be organizing a petition of small unions. affiliates to ask for Joshua’s resignation.

To the SA Panel, Skaf denied that it is preparing a document for that purpose.

The subject grew again on Friday (14), when Skaf released a video defending the vote for Bolsonaro, which was interpreted in the sector as an attempt by the former president of Fiesp to wave to the government. The assessment is that, although he was frustrated in his attempts to run for the Senate or vice-governor in SP, Skaf may have managed, now, to demonstrate that he still has the strength to be remembered later as a possible minister, if Bolsonaro will recreate the Ministry of Industry if he wins re-election.

The president of Abiplast (plastics industry), Ricardo Roriz, who was vice-president of Fiesp and one of Skaf’s biggest critics, says he does not agree with signing a letter of resignation. “The moment is not to bring more noise to Fiesp’s image. The important thing now is that all businessmen in the sector seek a converging project for the reindustrialization of Brazil and work together so that the next government has this as a priority. Skaf, who walked disappeared in the 1st shift, he fought with everyone who replaced him at Fiesp, Benjamin [Steinbruch]me and now Josué”, says Roriz.

Synésio Batista, president of Abrinq, also rejects the alleged petition. “Although I don’t know Josué, I don’t sign it, because I consider it an attack on the institution.”
