Opinion – Cida Bento: People who have been attacked and discriminated against can help Brazil fulfill its destiny

by

Many, many of us who want a more humanized and democratic Brazil have gone out to fight in recent weeks in search of talking to people close to us who are still undecided about who to vote for.

Or even those embarrassed by the choice they tend to make, despite the rejection of this or that candidate. It is these undecided or embarrassed people who will be able to decide which country we will have in 2023.

Anyway, 2023 is announced as a year of many difficulties due to the polarization situation that was fostered by the economic, political and social crisis installed in the country.

But it is more hopeful and encouraging to think that we will be able to rebuild the country inspired by public policies that have already worked, such as the Zero Hunger program, which lifted large segments of the population out of extreme poverty, or with policies that aimed to strengthen the unified health system and ensure minimum conditions such as free basic medication for the sick low-income population.

It is also encouraging to be in a country that can once again invest in basic education schools and public universities, as it did a few years ago, opening the door to a portion of the population that, through affirmative action, could finally access the right to higher education. .

A welfare state can be re-articulated and we can convince the undecided, those who are skeptical of politics, those who say that “politicians are all the same” that we have to believe and bet again.

So patiently show data, show different times we could live when our forests weren’t ravaged by incessant fire and encourage people to leave their homes to vote.

Nothing more urgent than that. The blank vote, the null vote and also the abstention of those who want more effectiveness of fundamental rights only strengthen the continuity of what we already have today and we need to believe that we can transform reality.

And it is also encouraging to see that the poorest part, the black part, the northeastern part, has already decided on a vote that allows the construction of a more humanized time, without fear of being happy.

This portion was not seduced by the apology for the indiscriminate use of weapons and violence as a solution to social problems.

Thus, we, who are already aware of the dangerous flirtations that part of our country has been having with Nazism, fascism, have to take a deep breath and actively seek for a change in the positioning of the undecided and those tending not to vote.

And we feel honored because it is precisely that portion of the population that is often attacked, discriminated against, and not supported by public policies is the one that can help Brazil to fulfill its destiny, from the investment in the environmental and human wealth it has.
