The Deputy Electoral Attorney General, Paulo Gonet, asked the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) to adopt measures to restore normality on Brazilian highways. The electoral court is chaired by Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
In the document sent to the court on Monday night (31), Gonet requests that the measures be taken with caution and with guidance to the PRF (Federal Highway Police), “to avoid aggravation of the situation and guarantee the free transit of vehicles, goods and people on every highway in the country”.
“Challenges of this kind affect the electoral process, in terms of its legitimacy and effectiveness as a form of expression of popular will,” said the deputy PGE.
Gonet is appointed to carry out the day-to-day work of the Attorney’s Office with the TSE by Augusto Aras, holder of the post.
The request was made based on news about demonstrations carried out by truck drivers. Blockades affect federal highways in several states.
Earlier, the 7th Chamber of Coordination and Review of the Federal Public Ministry requested from the PRF, within 24 hours, information on the measures being taken to ensure the maintenance of flow on federal highways. The collegiate takes care of procedures related to the external control of police activities.
