Staikouras in SKAI: About 7.5% increases are coming for pensioners, and a 3rd minimum wage increase

by

The pension increases go to 2.3 million of our compatriots, of which the vast majority are low-pensioners, emphasized the Minister of Finance.

Increases of around 7.5% for a large part of pensioners, and a third minimum wage increase in the first half of the new year, announced to SKAI and Giorgos Autias Christos Staikouras.

“I estimate that pension increases will be around 7.5%. The increases result from the sum of 50% of GDP and inflation. The GDP estimates from the Ministry of Finance will be a bit more conservative than the Commission’s. Inflation will tend towards 10%, that is, a result of around 7.5% comes out,” he explained.

Pension increases go to 2.3 million. our compatriots, the vast majority of whom are low-income pensioners, emphasized the Minister of Finance. They got more than 900 million in total during the year, he clarified.

We have, he reminded, abolished the solidarity levy for civil servants and pensioners which is a permanent measure. Pensioners, a significant section of over 1 million, will get a punctuality check this year, a larger proportion of pensioners will have a permanent increase in the region of 7.5% and we also have the abolition of the solidarity levy for 500,000 pensioners. “These are brave, permanent interventions for pensioners” noted Mr. Staikouras.

At the same time, we are permanently reducing taxes and insurance contributions for the whole of society, mainly for the middle class and the lower income strata, and we are intervening, not with permanent measures, in the expenditure side to support households and businesses while the energy crisis lasts, he stressed.

Christos Staikouras clarified that the procedures for the third increase in the minimum wage will begin at the beginning of the year. As he announced, “in the first half of 2023 we will legislate the third minimum wage increase.”

For the heating allowance, he stated that it is 300 million, while last year it was 170 million euros. We have the heating oil subsidy which is another 300 million euros, and 800 million of the precision check, that is, more than 1 billion euros will enter the citizen’s wallet indirectly or directly by the end of the year.

“We gave 8.5 billion euros in refundable advances, so the first essential issue we solved is that the vast majority pay a very small amount of the refund they got. 2/3 of the returner was shorn. We are making a rational economic policy that will lead us in 2023 to more income than expenses” said the Minister of Finance.

Regarding hydrocarbon research, he noted that every citizen should be satisfied, because primarily the country utilizes its wealth. We must also ensure our energy security, and the third in importance is the financial part, he observed.
