US Federal Reserve Vice Chairman Lael Brainard said today that the Fed would be appropriate to moderate its interest rate hikes “soon”, stressing however that it should not stop these increases.

In its bid to tame inflation, the US central bank has in recent months made four consecutive interest rate hikes, each by 75 basis points. Fed interest rates are now at their highest level since January 2008.
Recent data showing an easing of inflationary pressures in October was “encouraging”, the vice chair of the US central bank commented.
