The government of Minas Gerais has advanced in recent months in studies for the concession of basic sanitation services to the private sector in a block of 83 municipalities in the north and northeast of the state, which is arousing great interest among companies in the sector.
According to the State’s Secretariat for Economic Development, there are only a few adjustments left to sign an agreement to assess the financial, economic and technical feasibility of the project and define how the concession will be auctioned.
The municipalities are currently served by Copasa (Companhia de Saneamento de Minas Gerais). The IFC (International Finance Corporation), the arm of the World Bank for financing development projects, will carry out the studies for the concession.
