Panel SA: Climate crisis leads to concentration of investments in energy startups

by

Investments in energy startups grew by 134% until November of this year compared to the same period in 2021. According to the mapping of the innovation platform Distrito, the data shows a sign of strength of energytechs within the universe of startups.

In this survey, data from 206 companies were collected. Energytechs received US$ 288 million in 15 investment rounds this year against US$ 123 million last year.

In the general ecosystem of Brazilian startups, US$ 4.1 billion were raised, half of the investments in the same period of 2021.

The District claims that climate problems, volatility in energy prices and regulatory developments are attracting investors to energytechs. These are companies that create solutions to the demand for renewable sources and make energy consumption more efficient.

Among the companies that received the most investments in the segment are those that work with renewable energies, attracting US$ 276 million this year – 92% of the volume raised. Órigo and SolFácil were the leaders in the period, raising US$ 201 million and US$ 100 million, respectively.
