Shopping malls are optimistic about Christmas this year. The forecast is that they will sell 16% more than last year and will move R$5.6 billion next week, according to Abrasce (Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers).
The result should not reach the levels seen before the coronavirus pandemic. The projection represents a sales volume 10% lower than that achieved at Christmas 2019, says the association.
This year, even with the drop in income, consumers are willing to spend more, says the entity. The average value of purchases, which last Christmas was R$197, should reach R$219 this year, adjusted for inflation. In 2019, it was BRL 186.
According to the survey by Abrasce, which is also betting on online sales, the most sought after products should be clothing, perfumes and cosmetics, electronics, shoes and toys.
Shopping malls expect a public 17% higher than in 2020, when shopping centers were still facing restrictions on their functioning. Establishments must hire 100,000 workers for Christmas.
