Twitter users want Elon Musk to step down as CEO

by

A poll conducted by Elon Musk on whether he should step down as CEO of Twitter showed that the majority of social network users who participated voted in favor of the change after voting ended on Monday (19).

About 57.5% of the votes were in favor of the billionaire leaving the command of the company, while 42.5% were against the idea, according to the poll released on Sunday night (18). There were 17.5 million people participating.

Musk said he would abide by the results of the vote, but gave no details on when he would step down if the results said he should. More than 17.5 million people took part in the poll.

Shares in Tesla, the electric car maker he also runs, rose more than 5% in premarket trade.

“As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for, you might get it,” he tweeted minutes after launching the poll. In 40 minutes of voting, the poll obtained 2.6 million votes, and “yes” won with 57.1%.

Also on Sunday, Twitter said it would remove accounts created solely for the purpose of promoting other platforms and content that contain links or usernames. The platforms are Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Truth Social, Tribel, Nostr and Post.

The policy change follows a series of actions since Musk bought the company.

The billionaire, who took control of the social network at the end of October for US$ 44 billion (R$ 232.3 billion), dismissed part of the company’s top management and thousands of employees, and is now evaluating how much to charge for the subscription service platform, Twitter Blue.
