The indication of the advance of the Lula-Alckmin ticket for the 2022 elections, reinforced by the duo’s first appearance in public, on Sunday (19), still causes strangeness among business representatives. While some remain reluctant to unite the former president and former governor, some assess the move as positive for the private sector and even for other candidates in the race.
José Carlos Martins, president of the CBIC (Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry), says he has one foot behind the plate, which he classifies as “a kind of strange marriage, one that in the first fight flies a plate, a chair”, because the history of two politicians would not have convergence.
According to him, Alckmin’s presence has the function of attracting São Paulo voters, and not making Lula more acceptable to the business community, since the president managed, in the past, to calm this part of society when he began his first term.
The president of Abiplast (which brings together the plastic industry), José Ricardo Roriz, says that “the politicians, separated, have a long history of serving the country, but together they lose the essence of what they represent and built”.
For Paulo Solmucci, president of Abrasel (bar and restaurant association), the Lula and Alckmin movement represents a search for political convenience, but it may be opportune to harmonize the country.
“Both were very open to dialogue and the moment demands a general willingness to review how things were done. I think it brings something favorable [para o empresariado]. It can be productive,” he says.
In the opinion of Fabio Aguayo, director of CNTur (confederation of the tourism sector) and coordinator of a movement to support Sergio Moro’s candidacy, Lula’s meeting with Alckmin would favor the former judge in any case, because it would help to dehydrate Bolsonaro and corner the governor of São Paulo, João Doria, opening up more roads to Moro.
“The center will soon abandon Bolsonaro, and the center’s candidate, in 2018, was Alckmin. Moro grows as an alternative,” says Aguayo.
