The annual vehicle licensing fee in São Paulo will be R$155.23 in 2023, about 7% more than what was charged this year. The information was released this Thursday (29) by Detran.SP, along with the payment schedule.

Licensing begins to expire in July, organized by month, according to the end of the license plate, with the last expiration in December.

Owners of vehicles registered in the state can anticipate the regularization, provided that the IPVA (Tax on Motor Vehicle Ownership) is paid in full, as well as all vehicle debts. The IPVA 2023 salary schedule starts on January 11, for cars with final license plate 1.

“For those who prefer to license the vehicle in advance, the service will be available from January. Remembering that the licensing is completely online, through the banking system, without the need to go to a Detran.SP or Poupatempo unit”, says Neto Mascellani, CEO of Detran.SP, in a note.

Not licensing the vehicle within the deadline is a very serious infraction and can result in removal of the vehicle from the yard, a fine of R$ 293.47 and seven points on the license, as determined by the CTB (Brazilian Traffic Code).

In 2022, licensing cost BRL 144.86. According to Detran.SP, the adjustment in the value is made based on the disclosure of the Coordination of the Tax Administration of the State of São Paulo, considering that the value of the UFESP (Fiscal Unit of the State of São Paulo) is readjusted annually.

how to license

Since May 2020, the CRLV (Vehicle Registration and Licensing Certificate) is no longer printed. In January 2021, it was the turn of the CRV (Vehicle Registration Certificate).

Licensing and ownership data were unified in the CRLV-e (Certificate of Vehicle Registration and Licensing in digital media), a document that must be carried and authorizes the circulation of the vehicle.

To license the vehicle, you must inform the Renavam number and pay via internet banking, application, ATM at partner banks (Santander, Bradesco, Banco do Brasil, Safra, Itaú and Caixa Econômica Federal) or at lottery outlets for vehicle debts, such as for example IPVA, possible chargeable fines and the licensing fee.

If the vehicle runs on natural gas, the annual vehicle safety inspection is required before paying the licensing fee. The inspection report must be valid and cannot have been used to issue another car document.

After payment is confirmed, the digital document is available for download and printing in the “Digital Licensing” item in the Poupatempo Digital, Detran.SP and Carteira Digital de Trânsito – CDT applications and on the websites:

The driver can print the license on common bond paper (A4-white).

The carrying of the document remains mandatory, whether digitally or on paper. If stopped by the police and the document is not in order, the driver may have to pay a fine or even have the vehicle impounded.

Those who share the car can share the document through the application with up to five drivers or print more than one copy of the document with the security QR Code.
