Panel SA: Hospitality in Brasilia predicts occupancy below estimated for Lula’s inauguration

by

The occupancy rate of hotels in the Federal District this New Year’s Eve should be below the sector’s expectations, despite the increase in visitors who traveled to watch Lula’s inauguration ceremony.

According to estimates by Abih-DF (Association of Hotels in the Federal District), the level should be below 90%, a mark that is usually registered on the date in years of presidential inauguration. The most up-to-date data from ABIH, on Friday (30), indicated 84% occupancy.

One of the reasons for the drop, according to Henrique Severien, president of the entity, was the structure organized by the PT to receive its supporters in Brasília, which affected the demand for hotels.

The party was authorized to use public schools as accommodation, and distributed the rest of the group in tents in Parque da Cidade, Mané Garrincha stadium, and Granja do Torto.

Price of the trip and the fear of security, after the bomb threat in the capital, may also have contributed to alienate part of the potential guests.

“There was a succession of delicate news and it was difficult to reach 90%. Acts of vandalism, bomb threats, the airline strike. , said Severien.

Still according to him, although the occupancy rate is lower than expected, the increase in the average rate in hotels helped to offset the result.
