Japan’s McDonald’s chain was forced to ration one of its most popular products, French fries, after the drop in tuber imports due to flooding in Canada and the impact of Covid-19.
McDonald’s Japan said it will sell only a small portion of the fries for a week, starting on Friday (24), to avoid shortages.
“Due to severe flooding near the port of Vancouver … and supply chain problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic, there are delays in the supply of potatoes,” the company said in a statement.
The company said it has taken steps to ensure that customers can still buy French fries, despite the difficulties of a “stable supply of the product”.
At the same time, the semiconductor shortage caused by the pandemic continues to affect big automakers like Japan’s Toyota, which announced production cuts due to the crisis.
