Panel SA: Wine Producers Predict Global Manufacturing Decline and Disruption in Supply Regions

by

The volume of world wine production should close 2021 at a low level, with a 4% retraction compared to last year, according to estimates by the OIV (International Wine Organization).

The organization says that this may be the third consecutive year in which the global level of production, which should reach around 250 million hectoliters, is below average.

The organization’s attention is drawn to the oscillation between different regions. While the Northern hemisphere, where the largest wine producers in the world are located, should end the year with a drop of 13%, in the Southern hemisphere the production of the drink may grow by around 20%.

The OIV still predicts that Brazil, despite not being the largest wine producer in the region, should register the greatest advance in the volume produced in the southern hemisphere in 2021 compared to 2020, with an increase of approximately 60%.

This year, the main wine makers in the world — Italy, Spain and France — may suffer drops of 10% to almost 30% because of unfavorable weather conditions, such as frost and drought.
